Mascot

COUGAR
Cougars are the largest wild cat in North America. Almost hunted to extinction, they are now making a comeback. Cougars are swift, graceful, powerful creatures. They never hesitate and none of their movements are wasted. They are intelligent and proud. It is good to be a cougar!

School Crest

The school seal was conceptualized by the Class of 2005, the first group of students to spend all four of their high school years at PSHS. The concepts of devotion, scholarship, pride, and compassion define the beliefs of our school and are representations of the four academic hallways in our building

School History

Plainfield South High School opened in August of 2001. The school was the second high school in Plainfield School District 202 and its location SOUTH of the original Plainfield High School gave it its name.

Plainfield South had an initial enrollment of only freshman and sophomores. An additional freshman class was added each of the next two years until PSHS had a full complement of classes in the school year 2003-04.

PSHS has always had a diverse population. The PSHS student population has typically reflected the Plainfield/Joliet communities, both economically and ethnically.

The school itself consists of more than 200 classrooms, a competition gymnasium, fieldhouse, auditorium, media center, state-of-the-art technology, cafeteria, and commons area. Outdoor facilities include a 4,000-seat stadium, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, and an all-weather track. The stadium is serviced by a "stadium building" which includes locker rooms, a training room, restroom facilities, and a concession area.
