Four D.202 high school students earn top prizes at art contests

Plainfield Art League “Best of the Best” High School Show

Kendall Haupt, a senior from Plainfield East High School, won first place for her watercolor titled “Gentle Spirit.”

Catherine “Kati” Rambo, a senior from Plainfield High School-Central Campus, earned second place for her graphite pencil drawing titled “Just Stay This Little.”

 Haupt and Rambo each earned a $100 scholarship and will show their work at the Naperville Art League show March 9-12, 2022.

Grace Leeth, a junior from PHSCC placed third for her graphic pencil drawing titled “Anatomy Lesson” and earned a $50 scholarship.

She will serve as an alternate in the Naperville show.

The art league sponsors this annual show and hosts an open house in the Jon W. Balke Student Art Gallery in the District 202 Administration Center each winter.

Joliet Junior College annual Joliet Area High School Awards

Vivianne Angulo, a senior from Plainfield South High School, won first place for her sculpture titled “Blossoming 2.”

She won a $100 gift card to the JJC Bookstore.

Leeth took third place for “Anatomy Lesson” and won a $50 gift card to the JJC Bookstore.

Twelve area high schools submitted 53 student pieces for the exhibit.

The JJC visual arts faculty with disciplines in art history, graphic design, 2D and 3D design, drawing, and painting judged the contest.

Awards were presented virtually on December 9, 2021.
