Plainfield East, South high school students awarded at NIU art competition

    Student artists from Plainfield East and South high schools were honored at the Northern Illinois University Annual High School Invitational Exhibition on November 21, 2020.

This year, the competition was held virtually due to ongoing COVID-19 safety concerns. Illinois high school art teachers could submit up to two pieces of student artwork for the competition.

The exhibition featured a virtual art gallery and a virtual closing reception and award ceremony on November 21, 2020.

During the closing reception art students across Illinois could watch art demonstrations, sit in on student and faculty art discussions on Zoom, and attended a virtual tour of NIU’s art studios.

These District 202 students participated in the virtual competition and received awards as indicated:

Plainfield East High School:

• Eugenia Amado Tocuyo, senior ($500 Art Scholarship award)

• Natalie Hua, senior (Honorable Mention Award)

Plainfield South High School:

• Marisa Marino, junior (Honorable Mention Award)

• Vivianne Angulo, junior

Plainfield High School – Central Campus and Plainfield North High School did not participate in the competition.
