Welcome to my page

My name is Mary Ellen Testen and I teach Honors Physics (Periods 1&7) and Honors Chemistry (Periods 3,4 &5)

I was born and grew up in Chicago. My education includes a B.S. in Chemistry from Loyola University, a M.S. in Inorganic Chemistry from theUniversity of Wisconsin Madison, Teaching certificate from Benedictine and a M.Ed. from University of St Francis.  I've been teaching since 2003 and have been here at South the whole time.  I've taught all levels of chemistry and both Honors Physics and AP Physics 1.

Before I was a teacher, I was an analysitcal chemist at a private lab, an environmental chemist at a sewerage plant and for a Public Health lab (in Madison Wisconsin).  I was also Environmental Technical Services Supervisor for the Madison Department of Public Health.  So how did I get here?  After putting my husband through graduate school, he began a career at Argonne National Lab, and we moved, with our kids back to Illinois.  I was finally able to get my teaching certificate, and begin the career I had wanted for a long time.

Both my children are graduates of South, and were active in choir and theater.  My hobbies inlcude Medieval re-enacting, camping, fishing, cooking, music as well as science fiction and fantasty.  When I have the chance, I also enjoy FRP.
