Lessons & Events

All Counselors provide lessons to our students in both small and large groups.  Students may make appointments with their assigned counselor for individual appointments.  The district also provides evening events for both students and parents.  Information regarding past lessons and or presentations can be found below.

Lessons and Events

Freshmen (September 4)   Identify your support team at South, the importance of a good Grade Point Average and how to calculate.  The presentation can be found by clicking here

Seniors & Parents (September 4) Senior College Night!  7PM at PSHS.  Come and learn about the application and financial aid process.  English presentation in the Auditorium.  Spanish presentation in the Media Center.  Click here for the presentation.

Seniors (August 29 -Sept 12)  Completing college applications and how to request transcripts through Naviance.   Mrs. Ursetta, College Career Counselor, will be meeting with seniors during the English class period to present this information.  Transcript Release Form.  Scholarship Search Tips.  

Juniors (September 18) Important information to know in your Junior Year: SAT/ACT/PSAT, ASVAB, Test Prep, College Fairs, Meet with a college representative at school in the College Career Center - room 300, Get on the Bus field trips, taking college visits, Core Course GPA for athletes, and building up an academic resume through leadership and involvment.  Powerpoint and handouts

All grade levels (September 19) College Fair at Plainfield NORTH High School.  6:30pm to 8pm.  For Senior students there will also be  a Financial Aid presentation.  Presentations are at 6PM or 7:15PM.  English presentation in the auditorium.  Spanish presentation in the Media Center. 

Grades 10 - 12 (October 7) ASVAB.  Students who are interested in taking a career interest inventory and aptitude test may sign up for the ASVAB in Student Services.

All grade levels (October 10) Vaping, Marijuana, Opioids, What do you know?  This presentation by Dr. Kathleen Burke, Director of Substance Use Initiatives in Will County, and Dr. Aaron Weiner, Director of Addiction Services at Linden Oaks, is for students in grades 5 and up and guardians.  The presentation will be held at Plainfield EAST High School in the auditorium starting at 5PM.  

Grade 11 (October 16) PSAT/NMSQT.  All juniors will be taking the PSAT which is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  

All grade levels (October 16) JJC College Fair.  Over 100 colleges will be presented.  Financial Aid workshops in English and Spanish are available. Starts at 6PM.

Juniors and Seniors (October 21) PSHS Resource Fair.  Visit several representatives from colleges, military, trades, and ISAC for financial aid infomation.

All grade levels (October 23)  Conquering College Co$ts.  Find the Right College, Right Price and how to maximize your opportunties for scholarships and grants.  Plainfield EAST High School in the auditorium.

Juniors (various dates)  Students in grade 11 may sign up for a "Get on the Bus" college visit field trip.  Seats are limited.  Students may sign up in Student Services.  Cost of the trip varies between $12 - $13 depending on location.   NIU - Nov. 6, UIC - Nov. 7, and DePaul Nov. 14.
